Here's the first official teaser trailer of The Host:
The trade magazine Variety broke the news that Andrew Niccol won't direct the Host, it's actually Director Susanna White who will be in charge of the movie adaptation of The Host. White previously directed "Nanny McPhee Returns".
Now that a director has been announced, let's hope they'll fast-track casting and production.

Author Stephenie Meyer (who created the Twilight Saga) published the romantic science-fiction novel The Host in 2008. It's a novel about a near future earth where the majority of the population has become infested with benevolent sentient parasites. In the Host Stephenie Meyer explores what happens to relationships when two beings inhabit the same physical body.
Following the success of Twilight there's been a growing interest in adapting other works by Stephenie Meyer to the big screen. And in September 2009, producers Nick Wechsler, Steve Schwartz, and Paula Mae Schwartz (the three of them previously produced The Road) bought the movie rights to The Host. So there's a movie adaptation of The Host ahead of us.
Plot:
"Earth has been overrun by an alien species called Souls, which invade human bodies and erase personalities. One soul, the Wanderer, is fused with a dying human named Melanie Stryder, in an attempt to locate the last pocket of surviving humans on Earth."
A quite talented director has been hired to helm the project: Director Andrew Niccol who's got a solid experience and an impressive career, he most notably directed Lord of War, S1m0ne and Gattaca. So there's hope for the Host to be a great movie and not just an attempt to exploit Stephenie Meyer's new fame.
There's no official release date yet (the Host is still in pre-production actually), but I heard that the film should be released sometime in 2011.
If you haven't read the Host yet, Stephenie Meyer is sharing an excerpt from the book on her official site:
